Frequently Asked Questions
-
We are deeply committed to sustainability and local craftsmanship. The vast majority of our slabs are sourced from urban logging and salvaged trees right here in the Kansas City metro area—trees that would have otherwise been cleared for development and sent to a landfill or mulch pile. We rescue them, mill them, and give them a second life.
-
To accommodate different budgets and skill levels, we offer slabs at various stages of readiness:
Rough Sawn: Straight from the kiln. It will require flattening, surfacing, and full sanding on your end.
Hit-or-Miss / Surfaced Two Sides (S2S): We run the slab through our industrial surfacing setup so both faces are perfectly flat, parallel, and true. It will just need final finish-sanding and edge cleanup.
Finished Slabs: Fully prepped, stabilized, voids filled with epoxy, and finished with a premium, durable coating—ready to attach legs and place in your room.
-
Absolutely. If you find a rough slab in our inventory that you love but don't have the heavy machinery to flatten it yourself, we can surface it for you using our precision shop equipment for a flat shop fee.
-
Yes, we highly encourage it! Looking at grain structure, feeling the texture, and visualizing the final piece is best done in person. Please reach out via our contact form or call ahead to coordinate a shop visit, ensuring someone is available to safely pull slabs from the racks for you.

Slabs are incredibly heavy and cumbersome. We offer local curbside delivery across the KC metro area (including Jackson, Clay, Platte, and Johnson counties) for a reasonable delivery fee depending on your distance from the shop. Lift-gate or flatbed transport can be arranged for oversized conference-table-sized slabs.
